X-Men Gifted TV Show

Superhero TV shows are taking over the fall TV lineup. One show that has comic fans buzzing is The Gifted. The Gifted is a series created for Fox that will bring Marvel Comic’s X-Men universe back on TV.

The X-Men don’t always get the love they deserve when it comes to movies and TV productions despite being one of Marvel’s most beloved properties. That has a lot to do with the fact Fox owns the X-Men character rights. Fox hasn’t always given the X-Men properties the attention it deserves.

How The Gifted Connects With The X-Men

The gifted will be based on two ordinary parents who are on the run from the government when they discover their children have mutant abilities. While on the run the family will join a group of underground mutants that are fighting to survive.

Mutants being hunted by the government is nothing new to the X-Men storyline. It has always been a theme within the comics and now The Gifted will bring it to TV.

One thing the X-Men universe has to it’s advantage is that there are so many characters to used. There are numerous characters they could use on The Gifted. Some of the feature characters on The Gifted are prominent X-Men characters in the comic.

X-Men Featured on The Gifted

  • Polaris:
    • Polaris has the power of magnetism and can control metal objects much like Magneto. In the comics, Polaris is the daughter of Magneto. It will be interesting to see if The Gifted will dive into the comic territory and feature any of Polaris’ deep ties to the X-Men.
  • Blink:
    • Blink has teleportation powers and can move herself and smalls groups at will. She was previously featured in X-Men: Days of Future Past. She is also another character that is deeply rooted in the X-Men mythos.
  • Thunderbird:
    • An Apache Indian that has super human stamina, strength, and speed. He also has enhanced senses that make him a capable tracker. Thunderbird will be the leader of the underground mutants featured in The Gifted.

These are just three of the better known X-Men characters that will be featured on The Gifted. The show surely will dive into other characters and references to the X-Men culture.

Can The Gifted Be A Successful Start to The X-Men TV Universe?

Recently, Deadpool and Logan have revived the X-men franchise at the box office. Also, Legion which is based of X-men characters had a critically acclaimed first season on FX. The Gifted hopes to follow the same success when it premiers on Fox October 2nd.

The X-Men have never really had a feature property featured on television. The Gifted looks to capitalize on the superhero hype and put together a great X-Men show.

The overall theme of the show should help the show get some of the attention it needs. With the government hunting mutants it will help viewers see the struggles people face for being different or misunderstood.
