Cast of Marvel’s New Warriors TV Show

Marvel’s New Warriors TV show still doesn’t have a premier date, but it does have a cast! Back in April, the team members that would make up the New Warriors. Now we know who is playing them:

  • Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub)
  • Mr. Immortal (Derek Theler)
  • Night Thrasher (Jeremy Tardy)
  • Speedball (Calum Worthy)
  • Microbe (Matthew Moy)
  • Debrii (Kate Comer)

This group will make up Freeform’s first live-action superhero team. New Warrior is being labeled as a teen comedy, which matches up with the theme for their comic book.

Who are the New Warriors and what do they do?

The New Warriors is a team of superheroes that acts as the teenage Avengers. In the comics the group was made up of various superheros. At one point they had their own reality TV show.

The Freeform TV show hasn’t said much about what we can expect from the show. Here’s a little background on each character and what they bring to the table.

Doreen Green/Squirrel Girl:

  • Doreen Green of Squirrel Girl has become a favorite among Marvel fans. She never was a member of the New Warriors in the comics, but her popularity can explain why she was chose for the New Warriors TV show.
  •  Doreen has razor-sharp claws, retractable knuckle spikes, and prehensile bushy tail. She also has super-human strength, agility, and sense to go along with her squirrel features.Of course, she also has the ability to communicate with squirrels and even has them as sidekicks with Monkey Joe, and Tippy-Toe.

Craig Hollis/Mr. Immortal:

  • Craig Hollis is another character that was never a part of the New Warriors in the comics. He is the leader of the Great Lakes Avengers that had Squirrel Girl on it. His character is always putting his life on the line.
  • He’s a unique character that has the super power of immortality. He can automatically resurrect and heal from any death. This happens almost immediately. The only problem is anytime he is resurrected he faces bouts of uncontrollable rage.

Dwayne Taylor/Night Thrasher:

  • Dwayne Taylor is the founding member and leader of the New Warriors. He witnessed his parents murdered in front of his eyes. This catastrophic event lead him to become a martial arts master and human fighting machine.
  • Night Thrasher does not posses any super-human abilities. On top of his super fighting skills, he is an excellent acrobat and also wears an armored suit. Something in his DNA structure makes him immune to telepathy. It’ll be interesting to see how they adapt him for the New Warriors TV series.

Robbie Baldwin/Speedball:

  • Speedball has a more traditional superhero origin. He got caught in a lab experiment that went wrong and created an energy burst giving Robbie Baldwin superpowers. In the comics Speedball is one of the founding members of the New Warriors team.
  • His powers are interesting as they absorb the kinetic energy and forms force shields. He can also absorb all kinetic energy when he runs into something, which causes him to bounce back at a greater. So if he runs into a wall he will bounce off that.

Zach Smith/Microbe:

  • Microbe is a mutant with the ability to communicate with germs and microscopic organisms. Microbe was disowned from his father because his mutant abilities messed with his experiments. He was later adopted by Night Thrasher and trained to be a superhero.
  • While working with Night Thrasher, Microbe join the New Warriors team. Out of compassion the fellow team members worked with him, but he often got in the other heroes way.

Deborah Fields/Debrii:

  • Debrii was added to the New Warriors during their reality TV show and is relatively new to the comics. She was suppose to be the member to cause friction within the team because of her abrasive and antagonistic behavior.
  • Her powers are considered to be low-leveled telekinesis. She can use her powers to pick up objects and debri to protect her.

What kind of show will New Warriors be?

The plot details about what the show will be about have not been released by Marvel or Freeform. It would be interesting to see them take on the reality show take. Kind of like how they’ve done shows mockumentary style.

what do you think about the castings for the upcoming New Warriors show?
